City departments will be closed for nine days throughout FY 2011
Many City departments will be observing nine days of closure, or alternative methods of scheduling to meet the required 72 hours of unpaid furlough for all employees during Fiscal Year 2011.

Proposed Core Services Tax Informational Town Hall, Oct. 6
Vice Mayor Shirley Scott will host an informational town hall in Ward IV to discuss the proposed Core Services Tax on Wednesday, October 6, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Empire High School Auditorium, 10701 Mary Ann Cleveland Way.
Tucson police get $12.3 million grant to hire 50 officers
The Tucson Police Department will receive a $12.3 million federal stimulus grant to pay the salaries of 50 officers, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords announced today.

Proposition 107 is part of a national campaign against affirmative action programs that aim to open education, social services and workplaces to women and minorities.
It is being driven by a California man, Ward Connerly, who has pushed this legislation in other states.
The Arizona Daily Star urges a "no" vote.
