Bring Back the Splash Honored

My office has received word that Bring Back the Splash, has been selected as a finalist in the category of Community Building for this year's Metropolitan Pima Alliance's (MPA) Common Ground Awards on November 30th.

I want thank Rick Stertz, Doug Martin, Crissy Perham for their work on Bring Back the Splash, as well as John Sefton of Parks and Rec for his work on this effort, which raised $100,000 and opened six city pools that had been closed due to budget cuts.

Bring Back the Splash, wasn't just about a fund raising effort. This was to have the private and public sectors working together for the community. In addition, through my proposal and vote by the Mayor and Council, lifted a 25 year old restriction on Parks and Recreation soliciting advertising and sponsorships. This brought a new idea and approach to the table.
