Tucson Homeless Connect will provide direct services to over 300 homeless people in a convenient one-stop setting. The event will be held on Friday, March 4, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Dunbar Cultural Center, 325 W. 2nd St. This event is based on a national model used in over 200 communities around the U.S. and is regarded as a best practice in ending homelessness.
A unique element of this event is for community leaders to show their support by personally greeting and welcoming our homeless residents. We would like to invite you to participate in this process as a Distinguished
Guest. The best time for you to join us is between 8:30 am - 11:30 am on March 4.
Tucson Homeless Connect will involve over 130 volunteers and 35 service providers to offer:
. Welcome and hospitality
. Food
. Basic medical services
. Arizona I.D. (via Dept. of Motor Vehicles)
. Homeless Court (for City violations)
. Assistance with benefits
. Bed reservations for shelters and applications for housing
programs
. Haircuts
. Vet screening and licensing for dogs
. HIV and other screening tests
. Other needed services.
Tucson Homeless Connect is planned in collaboration with the Tucson Veterans Stand Down and HopeFest to ensure that these events are offered at regular intervals throughout the year for veterans, low-income and homeless residents of Pima County.
