23rd ANNUAL LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZENS (LULAC) EDUCATIONAL AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET, APRIL 19TH

TUCSON – The 23rd Annual LULAC Council 1057 Educational Awards & Scholarship Banquet will take place Thursday, April 19th at the Tucson Convention Center Copper Room, 260 S. Church.


People, businesses, and organizations bettering the lives of youth through education will be honored for their efforts at the Banquet.  This year’s honorees are for LULAC’s Presidential Citation Award include: F. Ann Rodriguez (Pima County Recorder), Dr. Albert Siqueiros (Superintendent of Indian Oasis-Baboquivari Unified School District), Arnold Palacios (Director of Tucson Youth Development, Inc.), and Ernie Duarte (Director of City of Tucson Developmental Services).  A special award for Outstanding Community Organization will be given to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.  Finally, Hon. Robert and Beth Walkup, Hon. Clarence W. Dupnik (Sheriff of Pima County), Joe Valdez (former City of Tucson Manager), and Hon. Ramon Valadez (Chairman of  the Pima County Board of Supervisors) will all be given the Soldado de Cuero Special  Recognition Award for their ten or more years of leadership and service to our community.

Tickets for the Banquet are $75 (dinner donations are tax deductible for the amount exceeding $25).  Proceeds will go to LULAC Council 1057’s effort to send students to attend the LULAC Washington National Youth Leadership Seminar and to provide scholarships with LULAC’s National Scholarship Foundation.

For the past 22 years, the League of United Latin American Citizens Council 1057 has been actively involved with the community in providing educational assistance to the youth.  Under the leadership of LULAC Council 1057 has had over 100,000 6th through 12th graders involved in the Annual LULAC Youth Leadership Conference, which has received national recognition from former President Bill Clinton, former First Ladies Hillary Clinton and Barbara Bush, the National Latino Children’s Institute, the City of Tucson, the Metropolitan Education Commission, the NAACP MLK Drum Major Award and by the Tucson Hispanic Coalition.
