COMMEMORATIVE STREET SIGN INSTALLATION TO HONOR UA BASEBALL 2012 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

To honor the University of Arizona baseball team winning the 2012
College World Series last week, the City of Tucson will install
commemorative street signs on Randolph Way at 22nd Street and at
Broadway. The new street signs read University of Arizona Baseball –
Championship Way 2012.

The street sign installation will take place on Tuesday, July 3, 2012.
Crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation will begin
placing the new signs on the traffic signal mast arms at 9 a.m. The
first sign will be installed at the northwest quadrant of 22nd Street
and Randolph Way.

This was the University of Arizona’s inaugural season playing
baseball at Hi Corbett Field, 700 S. Randolph Way. The UA signed a
five-year agreement with the City of Tucson with options for future
renewals to play at Hi Corbett Field.

"What a great way to begin this new relationship between the UA and the
City,” said Council Member Steve Kozachik, who is employed by the UA
Athletic Department and whose ward encompasses Hi Corbett Field.
“Being able to wear two hats throughout the inaugural season made
being involved twice as rewarding. Thanks to all of the community
members who came out and supported the team this season. I know that
Coach Lopez and the team consider you all a big factor in their
success."

Arizona won its fourth College World Series and NCAA baseball
championship with a 4-1 win over South Carolina on June 25, 2012.

Council Member Richard Fimbres, whose ward borders 22nd Street at
Randolph Way, said “This was a great partnership for both the City of
Tucson and the University of Arizona, this was a win-win situation for
both of us."

Media is invited to attend the street sign installation. Parking is
available at the northwest corner of Randolph Way and 22nd Street. City
Manager Richard Miranda will be available for interviews.
