What has happened in Tucson

The following was said by the curent Vice Mayor, Richard Fimbres, during the M/C Meeting under current events.

Several events happened, which didn’t get mentioned by the local media, in which tourists came to Tucson, enjoyed our city, spent their money in the Old Pueblo, for which the Tucson Mayor and Council wants to say thank you.

More than 100 teams and close to 1200 enthusiastic young people, their coaches and parents, came for the recent USA Volleyball Hi Performance championship tournament at the Tucson Convention Center. This international tournament featured future Olympians from across the Country and globe.

Recently, many Kateri Circle organizations of native Americans gathered at the Tucson Convention Center for the 72nd Tekakwitha Conference, for which I had the opportunity to welcome them to Tucson.

This past Friday, the Southwest District of the Kiwanis Clubs held their convention, with members across many states converging on the Tucson Area.

Also, the Southern Western District of the NACWC, held their 78th biennial convention in the Old Pueblo as well.

I had the opportunity, as Tucson’s Vice Mayor, to address these conventions and welcome them to our fair city, and thanking them for choosing Tucson for their meetings.

Lastly, the Humane Society will be hosing a late night adoption event, this Friday, August 12, from 11 am to 9 pm.  The Humane Society is located at 3450 N. Kelvin and for more information, call 321-3704.
