SR 86 Update

State Route 86 improvement work west of Robles Junction continues next week

The Arizona Department of Transportation will have intermittent lane closures on State Route 86 west of Robles Junction beginning Tuesday (Jan. 3) through Friday (Jan. 6) between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day. The work is part of the four-mile long road improvement project on State Route 86 between San Pedro and Viopuli Road (MP 137 and MP 141) on the Tohono O’odham Nation reservation.

The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph in the work zone and a construction vehicle will lead alternating traffic through the single open lane during work hours.

As part of ADOT’s continued investment along SR 86, this $6 million project includes expanding the roadway shoulders for enhanced safety, applying a new, smooth driving surface and installing drainage features along the project area.

The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2012.

The construction schedule is subject to change due to a variety of reasons, including weather, material availability and mechanical difficulties. ADOT advises drivers to proceed through or near work zones with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
