Grijalva Invites Business Leaders, Economic Experts to Join New Small Business Advisory Councils - Each of Six Counties Represented

Washington, D.C.– Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva today announced the upcoming creation of six Small Business Advisory Councils to help advise him on small business and economic issues in Southern Arizona. Each council will include 10 members and will represent one of the six counties included in the Seventh Congressional District – Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, Maricopa, Yuma, and La Paz.

Each council will focus on increasing regional economic competitiveness and keeping Rep. Grijalva up to date on local business needs. Every council will host at least one public event each year promoting small business in the community, and will meet with Rep. Grijalva at least twice a year and with Southern Arizona district director Ruben Reyes at least four times a year.

Applications and an introductory letter are available at http://1.usa.gov/z6kYF3. Small business owners, professors of economics and related fields, and others with economic expertise are encouraged to apply no later than Feb. 6. Each council will include at least one member representing a veteran-owned small business, a woman-owned small business and a minority-owned small business.

Membership on each council will last for one congressional term. Because of the 2012 election, the original council in each county will serve for one year and future councils will serve for two years.
