TPD Reminds People to Get Back to Basics to Prevent Burglaries

The Tucson Police Department is reminding people to get "back to the basics" after experiencing a recent increase in reported burglaries.

The police department wants to remind residents to close and lock all entry points to their home, even if they're just walking down the street to talk to a neighbor or running a quick errand.

This reminder was spurred by a recent spate of "no-force burglaries" where burglars gained entry to a home though an open or unlocked door or window, according to a Tucson Police Department news release.

Prevention tips include using enhanced deadbolt locks, solid exterior doors, auxiliary locks for sliding doors and windows, modifying landscape environments to improve visibility from the street, eliminating shadows and exposing entry points.
