Proposition 400 Information (Core Tax)

For City of Tucson voters, there are two ballot propositions, Proposition 400 and Proposition 401.

Tucson's Mayor and Council, by a 5 to 2 vote, placed a measure on the November ballot to ask voters permission to give them the option to raise the City Sales Tax rate from 2.0 cents to 2.5 cents per dollar purchased on taxable items.

The monies raised would go to maintain the City's core services: police, fire, courts (prosection, court, legal), street maintenance and repair and parks and recreation.

The Mayor and Council created a 14 member citizens commission to decide upon the ballot measure and to review the structural budget deficit the city faces.
