City Receives Grant to Replace 15 Buses

(From News Reports) The City of Tucson received a $5 million dollar grant on Monday from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the replacement of 15 buses. 

Funding for the grant comes from the DOT's "State of Good Repair" program. Money must be spent on public transit providers to replace, rehabilitate, and purchases buses and related equipment.

Sun Tran and the city received $4.2 billion in requests for the $775 million made available. Officials with Sun Tran plan to replace buses in the fleet which are up to 16 years old.

Tucson and the Regional Transit Authority are required to match local funds of up to 20 percent of the total project. Delivery of the new buses is expected to occur in about 18 months.
