Mayor Walkup Supports Prop 400

Questions: In these tough times, Tucsonans must get by with less. Why shouldn't government do the same? Won't a tax increase prompt shoppers to patronize stores in the county and suburbs where sales taxes are lower? If you support the police and fire departments, I urge you to vote "yes" on Proposition 400. This temporary sales tax increase would prevent layoffs for all currently funded police officers, firefighters and paramedics during this recession. However, if Prop. 400 fails many police officers and firefighters would be laid off. Public safety would be compromised.
