Imagine Greater Tucson announces two new workshops

Imagine Greater Tucson will host two additional public scenario-building workshops later this month.

A June 22 workshop will be held in Marana at Twin Peaks Elementary School, 7995 W. Twin Peaks Road. The workshop will be held from 6-8:15 p.m. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

A June 27 workshop will be held at Vida Nueva Church, 330 W. Nebraska St., Tucson. The workshop will be held from 6-8:15 p.m. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Information will be available in Spanish at this workshop.

Other workshops were held May 18, 24 and 25 and June 7.

Workshop participants will use game-style “chips” to help build future scenarios in an effort to better align future development of the region with the nine shared regional values that Imagine Greater Tucson revealed on April 7. The nine value categories encompass:

Business and the Economy
Cultural Diversity and Regional Character
Governance and Leadership
K-12 Education
Land Use and Urban Design
Natural Resources, Environment and Outdoor Recreation
Transportation and Accessibility
University of Arizona and Its Role in the Region
Well Being and Safety

engaging youth activities. Imagine Greater Tucson discovered, however, that the path our
region is on, based on our current trends and decision-making policies, does not align with our values.

Workshop participants will:

Suggest locations for future homes and jobs, and transportation investments
Share your ideas for urban development and revitalization
Identify needs for parks and creation and recommend open space areas you want preserved

In the fall, the public will have an opportunity to look at the alternative scenarios and provide feedback that will lead to a preferred scenario which addresses some of the values. All of the values will be incorporated into the Imagine Greater Tucson Vision.
