Literacy for Life Update

An Easy Way to Contribute to Literacy

You receive this bulletin from Literacy for Life Coalition because you care about literacy and its positive effects on our community. Now you can help make a difference!

Participate in the third annual Tucson Festival of Books
March 12 and 13, by volunteering for the Festival

You help the Literacy for Life Coalition and our partner organizations in two ways:
  • You work in a large community literacy celebration that brings literacy to the forefront of people's minds.
  • You help the Festival keep expenses low, so its charitable contributions to literacy in Tucson go farther.
And volunteers from previous years report that the work is truly exciting and interesting.
Tucson was recently ranked 33 among 75 cities in overall literacy - a significant improvement over last year. This is due in part to the efforts of the Arizona Daily Star, the University of Arizona, and people who have volunteered at the Festival to make Tucson a better place to live.
You can continue to make literacy a priority in Tucson with your 2-3 hour commitment.

Sign-up Instructions:

Note that the organizations of Literacy for Life Coalition would like you to volunteer the name of our organizations. Doing this supplements your monetary donations to literacy! And frankly, we promised volunteers and would love your help!
  • On the second of two screens for volunteer sign-up, there is a question: Are you with Literacy for Life? You will see a drop-down list of affiliated organizations. Choose one of the Literacy for Life organizations from the list.
  • Please note that you’re working for the Festival, in the name of an organization – not the organization’s booth (although you’re welcome to do that, too).
  • Let the organization know that you have signed up so they can keep track of your how many Festival volunteers they provided.
  • Enjoy knowing that you're contributing to literacy efforts in greater Tucson!
You may find that it takes a few tries to find a time and type of duties you may want to do, as many of the shifts are filled. If you're not available on March 12 & 13, there are also opportunities to volunteer for publicity activities – such as staffing tables in malls during the weeks preceding the event.
Thanks . . . we'll see you at the Festival!

Our 1800 volunteers help make the Tucson Festival of Books - with an anticipated 100,000 participants this year - a success.
