8TH STREET DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT 6TH AVENUE RESTRIPED FOR TWO-WAY TRAFFIC BETWEEN 6TH STREET AND 7TH STREET

The public is invited to attend a pre-construction open house on
Thursday, September 22, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., for the 8th
Street Drainage Improvement Project. The open house will be held at the
University Services Annex West, 220 W. 6th Street, Room A104 & A106.
There will be a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m. Representatives from
the City of Tucson and Borderland Construction will be available to
discuss the construction schedule and phasing, as well as access and
traffic control. MainStreet Business Assistance representatives will
also be on hand.

A portion of the Downtown Links project includes the 8th Street
Drainage improvements, which will provide a new roadway drainage system
and major reconstruction of the Tucson Arroyo. Construction of the 8th
Street Drainage project has been awarded to Borderland Construction
Company and is expected to begin in later this month.

As part of this construction, the City will re-stripe 6th Avenue for
two-way travel between 6th Street and 7th Street. This traffic-pattern
change will provide better access to area businesses during
construction. Detailed maps will be available at the Pre-Construction
Open House and at www.downtownlinks.info

The 8th Street Drainage improvement is part of the Downtown Links
project, a 30 mph, four-lane road north of the Union Pacific railroad
tracks that will connect Barraza-Aviation Parkway to Interstate 10. It
will provide alternate access to and around Downtown by foot, bike,
vehicle and public transit and offer new and safer underpasses, railroad
crossings and sidewalks.
